The IPMT Management Project for Shenzhen Natural History Museum won the only gold award in the Construction/Engineering/Infrastructure category of the Small and Medium-Sized Projects at the International Project Management Association (IPMA) Global Project Excellence Awards 2026. The awards were announced recently.
The project was jointly submitted by the Bureau of Public Works of Shenzhen Municipality and CSCEC. The award recognizes CSCEC's project management expertise on the international stage and offers a model for public works projects.

Established by IPMA, the Global Project Excellence Awards are widely regarded as the "Oscars" of project management. They are among the world's longest-running and most influential awards in the field.

Located in Pingshan district, Shenzhen, the museum has a total floor area of 105,300 square meters and occupies a site of 42,000 square meters. Its exhibition area covers 35,200 square meters. The museum aims to become the largest innovative natural history museum in south China, a comprehensive public education center showcasing nature, and a platform for presenting examples of ecological progress under Chinese modernization.

Rendering of the project
Inspired by a river delta, the museum's main structure incorporates 5,500 steel components, with a total steel structure weight of about 24,000 metric tonnes.
The project also makes extensive use of smart construction technologies, including welding robots and virtual reality (VR) inspections. A smart construction management platform supports project oversight and lays a digital foundation for the museum's future smart operations. The project was among the first batch of smart construction pilot projects in Shenzhen.
The project has received more than 20 international and national honors, including the "Making a Better World - AEC, Greater China" award at the Autodesk Design & Make Awards.
