Recently, the 2026 International Safety Awards (ISA) was announced. The Eb Cloete Interchange Project and the N3 Highway Upgrade Project in South Africa, both undertaken by CSCEC, received the highest honor — Distinction, for their excellent safety management systems and performance.

Organized by the British Safety Council, the ISA is one of the most authoritative and influential awards in global health and safety management.
As key transport infrastructure projects in South Africa, the two projects face challenges including heavy traffic, complex utilities and high-risk roadworks, all of which placed demanding requirements on site safety management.

The N3 Highway Upgrade Project
On both projects, CSCEC has built localized safety teams, bringing in experienced South African safety officers and supervision representatives to take part in day-to-day safety management. The teams have deployed digital monitoring systems, smart early-warning tools, and anti-collision technology for machinery, enabling round-the-clock monitoring of critical construction activities. This approach has allowed risks to be anticipated, processes to be tracked, and performance to be evaluated. The teams have improved working conditions by upgrading personal protective equipment, optimizing the work environment, and strengthening occupational health education on site.
