Recently, the Suzhou Bay Cultural Center project built by CSCEC was completed. The project is the first urban cultural complex in China to integrate the venues and functions of the grand theatre, cinema, museum, convention and exhibition center As such, it is another brand-new cultural landmark in Suzhou and the Yangtze River Delta.
The Suzhou Bay Cultural Center Project, covers a total area of 215,000 square meters, is designed by Christian de Portzamparc, the winner of Pritzker Architecture Prize, and Xu Yaying, master of acoustics. As the new cultural landmark of Suzhou, it will dock Yangtze River Delta with the broader world. The design of Suzhou Bay Cultural Center is prototyped with Suzhou Silk and silk water sleeves of the Kunqu Opera. The stunning "silk ribbon" is actually made of 3000 tons of steel to realise this unusual design.
Leveraging the shared hall, our engineers extensively used inclined reinforced concrete columns and beams to set up a hidden structure that supports the museum, skylights and connection bridges, providing an inspiring environment that invites visitors to embark on a journey of discovery.
The 1,600-seat Suzhou Opera House, the third largest theatre in the country features an international standard opera theatre, a multifunctional stage, a modular 600-seat hall.More than 10 rehearsal halls and wide outdoor space here can meet the needs of various large-scale artistic performances. Whilst the Wujiang Exhibition Centre comprises 6 exhibition halls:1 basic exhibition hall,2 thematic exhibition halls and 3 special exhibition halls.Showpieces of the museum include Jiangnan silk, calligraphy and painting, artifacts, etc.
