Recently, the final acceptance certificate for the North-South Highway in Algeria — built by CSCEC — was officially signed, marking the completion of another major transport artery that drives regional connectivity and economic development in Algeria, following the successful TIPAZA Expressway project.
Stretching 53 kilometers from Chiffa in Blida Province to Berrouaghia in Médéa Province, the project has transformed Algeria's long-standing aspiration of facilitating north-to-south cargo transport into reality. The project includes two long tunnels, 41 bridges, 175 culverts, and 10 interchanges, with bridges and tunnels accounting for 34% of the total length.
Overcoming complex geological conditions, CSCECers delivered Algeria's tallest slope protections, longest road tunnels, and longest highway bridges — carving out a true "Road of Dreams" for Algeria and the African continent.
The highway has dramatically reduced travel time from 4–5 hours to just 1 hour. "With this new highway, I have much more flexibility for deliveries. The wider lanes and better road conditions make driving far safer," said truck driver Saadaoui Djamel.
Zaoui Hakim, a vegetable vendor, shared, "We now leave at 5 a.m. to deliver vegetables to Algiers and can return before 8 a.m. — and even bring back some seafood from the capital!"
