On September 23, the 19th Asian Games was opened in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. CSCEC has constructed high-quality venues and supporting facilities for the Asian Games to contribute to a spectacular sporting event.
In the construction of venues and supporting facilities, CSCEC adheres to the concept of new development, pursues green environmental protection, focuses on low-carbon energy efficiency, extensively uses new technologies, methods, and materials, and incorporates regional cultural elements into the design to contribute to a green, intelligent, economical, and regionally distinctive Asian Games.
Three venues for the Asian Games
During the Asian Games and Asian Paralympic Games, the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium, Aquatic Sports Arena, and Training Hall built and operated by CSCEC, will shoulder the important responsibilities of hosting basketball, swimming, artistic swimming, diving competitions, and volleyball and handball training sessions. In the construction of the project, CSCEC used BIM technology for construction simulation, successfully resolving conflicts and collisions between irregular steel structures and electromechanical integrated pipelines. Furthermore, the venues are equipped with 210 light-guiding tubes, which, through top-mounted light collectors, diffuse natural outdoor light into the interior, resulting in an annual electricity savings of approximately 100,000 kWh. The Aquatic Sports Arena's circulation water pump employs a variable-frequency processing technology, achieving energy savings of over 15%.
Additionally, CSCEC will be responsible for the post-event operation for 20 years. CSCEC's plans include introducing six major categories of activities, including professional sports games, cultural performances, community fitness, sports training and education, as well as visiting activities, to let local residents visit and do fitness here.
Ouhai Dragon Boat Sports Center in Wenzhou
This project is currently the highest-standard dragon boat racing venue in China and even across Asia. It will host 6 finals of the Asian Games. The project employs optoelectronic intelligent architectural glass, endowing the glass with LED display features while maintaining a transparent exterior, enabling real-time broadcasting of competitions. Furthermore, the project features an automatic rainwater collection system for lawn irrigation.
Tonglu Equestrian Center
As the first equine disease-free zone in mainland China, the Tonglu Equestrian Center will host dressage, obstacle course and triathlon events. During the construction of the project, a BIM model was used to create a digital twin equestrian field online, achieving digitalization of processes, spaces, and scenes.
Shaoxing Baseball & Softball Sports Centre
This is the largest baseball and softball venue in China that meets international standards. The project is inspired by the textile culture of Shaoxing. The 20,000-square-meter canopy adopts a membrane structure, like a Venice of the East.
Wenzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium
The main stadium surrounds the field with 50,000 seats, featuring interwoven and gradient colors to create a better viewing experience. Aerially, the sports center looks like a giant dragon's eye.
Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport
On September 22, 2022, the third phase of Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, constructed by CSCEC, was officially put into operation. As a crucial transportation project to support the Hangzhou Asian Games, it boasts a total construction area of approximately 1.5 million square meters. It has significantly increased the annual passenger throughput to 90 million and cargo throughput to 3.6 million tons.
Line 19 of the Hangzhou Metro
This is Hangzhou's first rail express, successfully connecting Hangzhou Railway West Station, Hangzhou Railway East Station, and Xiaoshan International Airport. Line 19 of the Hangzhou Metro offers a "one station, one sightseeing spot" experience, providing a comprehensive display of Hangzhou's culture and history as well as the development of its ecological technology.
East extension of Jinhua-Lishui-Wenzhou Expressway
As Wenzhou's first expressway utilizing prefabricated construction, this project boasts a 67% proportion of bridges. The prefabricated assembly rates of the bridge upper and lower structures are 87% and 35% respectively, effectively reducing the impact of construction on traffic.
Shaoxing North Second Ring Road Smart Expressway
The project stretches approximately 11.6 kilometers in length, people can reach the highway within fifteen minutes through this expressway, which enables efficient connectivity between Hangzhou, Shaoxing, and Shaoxing's Asian Games venues. Intelligent assembled bridge-building machines were employed in construction, which can install a 200-ton slab within 30 minutes, setting a new record in China's bridge construction.
Hangzhou Asian Games Village and Chun'an Asian Games Sub-village
During the games, they will provide accommodation and services for athletes, team leaders, media personnel, and referees.
Hangzhou Asian Games Village
The Hangzhou Asian Games Village showcases its distinctive features by creating a rich-content public space that fully embodies the characteristics of the times, the charm of Jiangnan, and the characteristics of Hangzhou.
Chun'an Asian Games Sub-Village
The Chun'an Asian Games Sub-Village efficiently utilizes the natural advantages of mountain-based architecture, minimizing the need for daytime lighting and ventilation. The project is selected as one of the United Nation's "Biodiversity 100+ Global Typical Cases".
CSCEC also built venues and supporting facilities such as the comprehensive training hall of Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre, the second phase of the main stadium of the Wenzhou Olympic Sports Center, the Olympic Sports Center in Ouhai district, Wenzhou, Huanglong Sports Centre Swimming & Diving Centre, the phase 5 of Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital of the School of Medicine of Zhejiang University and other projects.
During the games, CSCEC will send over 30 technical experts who will actively participate in equipment and facility maintenance as well as landscape design at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium, Aquatic Sports Arena, Training Hall, and the Tonglu Equestrian Center. In addition, CSCEC has established a volunteer team for the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Aquatic Sports Arena, providing services for the Asian Games.
