Yamalik Mountain was once the largest barren mountain in Urumqi. Due to its steep terrain, insufficient water resources, and the traditional "overflow" irrigation method, the plants on the mountain had low survival rates, and some of the exposed irrigation pipelines were seriously damaged. Once Urumqi has strong winds, the entire city is covered with sand and dust from Yamalik Mountain.

After CSCEC undertook the Yamalik Mountain afforestation project, it conducted many on-site surveys. Based on the actual facts, CSCEC implemented ecological transformation from three aspects, turning Yamalik Mountain into a leisure place and a natural oxygen bar for Urumqi.

Efficient drip irrigation

The project has designed an irrigation system featuring full coverage and precise drip irrigation. While replacing the old irrigation pipelines, CSCEC has built over 2 million-meter-long branch pipes and drippers, and monitored the soil moisture content, temperature and other information in real time with a big data platform, which has achieve automated irrigation and greatly improved the survival rate of plants. Up to now, the project has completed the drip irrigation system covering 4,600 acres of forest area, irrigating nearly 1.4 million plants.

Reservoir + Man-made lake

The project has built a 5,000-cubic-meter storage tank near a sewage treatment plant on the mountain, and built a 5.2-kilometer-long water pipeline to improve the irrigation in  Yamalik Mountain with reclaimed water. Three man-made lakes are built on the mountain, with a total area of 37,000 square meters, creating a city public garden that provide water storage, water for firefighting, and microclimate modification for the region. The man-made lakes integrate the water system with the natural environment of the region, and provide a sustainable environment for insects, animals, and plants.

Nursery garden + Greenhouse

The project combines water system with forest to create a nursery garden featuring plantation, sightseeing, maintenance, production, It has not only effectively promoted the industrialization, standardization and intensive development of the city’s flowers and plants industry, it will also boost economic development and optimize the industrial layout in the region.

At present, the 200-mu nursery garden is under construction, and the 5,000-square-meter greenhouse and the auxiliary facilities related to gas, water, and power will be completed soon. The steel structure construction of the project will start shortly. The greenhouse will be equipped with an intelligent system for cultivating flowers and seedlings, and it plans to cultivate 13 species of shrubs, trees, and flowers. The 200-acre outdoor nursery base is going to to cultivate 47 kinds of plants and flowers, such as Chinese scholar tree, Tianshan cherry, black pine, rhododendron, and lilac.
