In Wuliangsuhai Lake of Inner Mongolia, there are severe soil erosion and grassland desertification. By amending the sandy land, the project team of CSCEC has returned grassland to the local pastoralists.

Through the investigation of terrain and the calculation of broadcasting angle and flight altitude, the project team has studied the broadcasting system carefully and reformed the UAV for seed planting. After many experiments, the UAV can spray 8623 seeds every 5 seconds, and the aerial seeding task in 7 square kilometers of sandy land has been successfully completed within 5 days.

Before sowing, all the grass seeds have been dyed with bright colors, which effectively prevented five-toed jerboa from eating and storing the grass seeds.

In the two years, the project team has promoted the overall protection and restoration of Wuliangsuhai Lake. About 32 million straw checkerboard barriers have been laid in the desert, 13.32 million Haloxylon ammodendron seedlings have been planted, 157 kilometers of roads in desert have been paved, the area of restored mined land has reached 66.505 square kilometers, and 29,446 mu of afforestation has been made, preventing nearly 1 million cubic meters of sand from flowing into the Yellow River every year.
